The world breaks everyone and afterward many are strong in the broken places.’

E.Hemingway, A Farewell to Arms

The photo and story book ‘SAMGORI – the forgotten of the market’ spotlights the vulnerable minorities of the Samgori market in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. Elderly, displaced from internal conflicts, ethnic minorities or people with disabilities: the market is their last refuge, a place where they try to make a living.

For three years, French photographer Olivier Jammes roamed the alleys of the market, photographed the people, collected their stories, witnessed the daily resilience, and distributed over 2,700 portraits to observe the impact on self-esteem.

This work was first exhibit at Black & White gallery in Tbilisi, Georgia in June 2019 and then displayed at Tbilisi International Photo Festival in September 2019.
